Meridian Business Support is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

In 2022, electricity consumption fell by 2% on 2021 and 47% on 2020. The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2020 baseline:

  • Implementation of ‘hybrid’ working patterns for most staff has resulted in a significant reduction in employee commutes.
  • Implementation and embedding of ‘remote’ meetings has seen a reduction in the number of face-to-face appointments and meetings, which has resulted in a reduction in business travel.
  •  Automatic light shut off in our newly refurbished head office.
  • Responsible waste management and promotion of waste recycling.
  • Promoted a paperless culture with most of our wastepaper being recycled.
  • Removed the need for single-use cups.
  • Digital strategy upgrade to laptops for all employees with resulting lower energy usage than previously used PCs across the whole of the business.
  • Training for all staff on environmental awareness as part of our induction programme and annually for existing staff thereafter.
  •  Purchasing sustainable merchandise

Future commitments to Carbon Reduction

In the future, we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • The adoption of smart plugs and energy-efficient light bulbs such as LED lighting at all locations where we have an internal repairing lease to reduce our usage and consumption.
  • Influencing property owners and managing agents on energy consumption measures where the implementation of such initiatives is out of our control to improve a property’s EPC rating. Working with such properties to reduce energy consumption.
  • Review sustainable and green branded products.
  • Embed sustainability at an operational level by rolling out a roadmap.
  • Define our sustainability strategy, milestones, and targets.
  • Develop success stories with strategic suppliers that directly impact our operations, energy consumption and sustainability targets. Working with like-minded organisations with similar sustainability and environmental goals. Increase engagement and co-operation.
  • Evaluation of waste management initiatives.

Community Engagement

Meridian is committed to supporting our local communities as part of our CRS efforts. Our team participates in volunteering activities, supports local charities, and organises events that benefit those in need. We fundraised over £17,677 for Leonard Cheshire, during our 3-year partnership. One of our team members participated in the Great North Run and collected £450 for our new chosen charity, Lighthouse Club. In 2022, we sponsored the Derby Live Festival in Darley Park, which provided entertainment and made resources accessible to the local community.

We actively engage with the communities where we operate. Our Head Office team supported Wythenshawe Food Bank over the Christmas period by completing a Reverse Advent Calendar. Staff donated a collection of items which were given to local food banks. See what we did with the cash donations.

At Meridian Business Support, we believe in the power of people coming together to drive positive change.
